IIT Madras Announces Collaboration with French University

IIT Madras Pravartak Technologies Foundation is collaborating with the French university L’Ecole Nationale de l’Aviation Civile (ENAC) to provide the first-of-its-kind course in the Indian civil aviation sector on “Aviation Safety Management” in order to train safety managers to enhance safety performance in various departments within the air transport system.

The course, supported by Airbus to enhance Safety education in the region, is designed to support the rapid development of aviation safety in India. This course targets professionals working in the air transport industry.

Air transport is a complex and rapidly changing macrosystem. Beyond regulations and technical developments, it is necessary to engage all actors at all levels of organization’s so that they can contribute positively to safety. Safety management remains a major challenge and requires adapted skills, including soft skills such as communication, leadership, and assertiveness.

The first batch will have a maximum of 30 seats and will commence in January 2025. The last date to register is December 15, 2024. Those interested in registering for this course can write to dsa@iitmpravartak.net or apply through the following website – https://digitalskills.iitmpravartak.org.in/course_details.php?courseID=285&cart

The two-year curriculum will consist of one in-person week every two months in the first year and one every month in the second. Throughout the program, faculty will travel from France to teach the courses. A six-month project or dissertation will be part of it. The training is appropriate for senior and mid-level managers in state-run aviation operators as well as working professionals in the aviation sector.

Highlighting the need for such courses, MJ Shankar Raman, chief executive officer, Pravartak, says, Civil aviation is one of the fastest growing industries in the last two decades. Digitization has shrunk the world, bringing huge benefits to the travel industry. The airline industry’s exponential growth comes with its own set of challenges. It is highly regulated and requires standards, consistent rules/regulations, and robust and clean processes to assure safety to millions of passengers worldwide.”
