The Himachal Pradesh government, led by Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, has decided to implement a toilet seat tax in the mountainous state. Under the new regulation, Himachal Pradesh residents will be charged depending on the number of toilet seats in their residences. It’s important to note that the state under the Congress government has been experiencing a financial crisis for an extended period.
According to the notification issued by the government related to sewerage and water bill, the people of the state will have to pay a fee of Rs 25 per toilet seat built in the houses of those residing in urban areas.
Along with the sewerage bill, this additional fee will be transferred to the account of the Jal Shakti Department.
According to a government notification, the sewerage bill will now be 30% of the water bill. For individuals who use water from their own sources but rely on the government’s sewerage connection, a monthly charge of ₹25 per toilet seat will apply. The department has instructed all divisional officers to implement these orders accordingly.
