On Diwali, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the chief minister of Pakistan’s Punjab province, stated that Rs 15,000 will be donated to 1,400 Hindu families in the state.
Addressing a crowd, she stated, “We are all Pakistanis, and Diwali represents peace, harmony, and love.”
According to local media reports, the CM lighted a lamp and took part in celebrations, as well as painting a traditional Rangoli. She also connected directly with Hindu women and delivered Rs 15,000 cheques to 1,400 Hindu households.
She said, “Lighting the Diwali lamp made me very happy.” It represents our solidarity as Pakistanis,” the report continued. She then cut a cake beside the Hindu women.
Hindu Pandit Kashi Ram performed Diwali Rituals and made a special prayer for the development and stability of Pakistan, the report further stated.
Maryam Sharif, daughter of Pakistan’s three-time former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, is the first woman to become Punjab’s chief minister.
