Yamuna Level Goes Up in Delhi: Alert Issued

The Yamuna water level in Delhi is likely to cross the warning threshold of 204.50 meters, increase to 204.90 metres, but remain below the danger level of 205.33 metres by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, according to the Central Water Commission. At 9 a.m., the river was flowing at 204.35 meters, which was only 0.15 meters below the warning level at the Old Railway Bridge Station. On Sunday, the level climbed by more than 1.47 metres, from 202.82 to 204.29 metres.

The level at the Old Railway Bridge station is regarded as a representation of Delhi. On Tuesday morning, the CWC stated that the rising water level at the station showed a “steady trend”. It urged residents to stay cautious until the water level drops below the warning level.

“Forecasted water level at 5pm on August 13, 2024, is expected to be 204.9m which is above warning level but below danger level,” CWC said in a statement. It added there was a low possibility of flood in the next few hours. “…it is advised to keep a watch on the flood until the water level goes down below the warning level,” the statement said.

Saurabh Bharadwaj, the irrigation and flood control minister, was expected to evaluate flood control preparations at the Boat Club near Metcalf House on Tuesday.
