Many schools across states have declared a vacation for tomorrow, September 7, in honor of Ganesh Chaturthi 2024. In several states, public, government-aided, and private schools are closed for both Ganesh Chaturthi and Onam.
This year, Ganesh Chaturthi will begin on September 7 and finish with Ganesh Visarjan on September 17. The event is extensively celebrated throughout India, particularly in Maharashtra and Karnataka. The decision to declare September 7 a holiday was made by state governments or private institutions to allow students, instructors, and staff to celebrate the festival and engage in religious and cultural activities with their family.

Maharashtra: All schools, including private, government, and government-aided schools, will remain closed on September 7 in the state of Maharashtra. Moreover, some schools will remain closed for 7-10 days on the occasion. The next day, i.e., August 8, is Sunday, which means students will get holidays for two consecutive days.
Uttar Pradesh: Though there will be no holiday in government and government-aided schools of Uttar Pradesh on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi as per the UP Education Department. However, some private schools can remain shut on the occasion.
Delhi: Similarly, schools in the national capital will have no holiday on September 7 as mentioned in the holiday calendar issued by the Delhi Education Directorate. But private schools can announce a holiday for the auspicious occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi.
Ganesh Chaturthi will begin with devotees welcoming Bappa home with a promise of better times and the removal of obstacles. The coming days will be spent in sermons, prayers and charity by devotees.
Moreover, the month of September also had holidays for the festival of Onam, which began on September 6 in many states. Onam is a celebration of the annual harvest in Kerala. The vibrant festival of Onam, also known as Thiruvonam or Thiru-Onam, is marked with great enthusiasm. The 10-day festival begins with Atham and continues with Chithira, Chodi, Vishakham, Anizham, Thriketa, Moolam, Pooradam, Uthradom and Thiruvonam till the last day. Each day of Onam holds a specific significance.
