When and Where to Expect the IPL 2025 Auction

On November 24 and 25, the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction is anticipated to occur in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The site and dates have not yet been formally confirmed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), but sources say that final preparations are underway and an announcement is expected shortly.

However, scheduling complications have arisen, as the auction dates coincide with India’s first Test match against Australia in Perth, set for November 22 to 26. Disney Star, which holds the broadcast rights for both the IPL and the India-Australia Test series, is keen to avoid a direct overlap between the events. Thankfully, due to the time difference with Australia, the auction, if held in the afternoon (IST), would likely avoid clashes with the match broadcast.

The IPL 2025 mega auction is approaching, with franchises preparing to bid on high-profile players such as Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Arshdeep Singh, and Ishan Kishan. These players are known for their batting prowess, leadership qualities, and sharp fielding, making them valuable assets for any franchise. Bidding wars are expected to be intense, with these players likely to command high prices.

The Bangladesh Cricket Council (BCCI) has conducted preliminary visits to Saudi Arabia to assess potential venues, with a second delegation expected to visit the Gulf nation on Monday. Riyadh, the capital, has emerged as the most likely host city for the two-day auction. IPL franchises are urging the BCCI to finalize the venue and dates promptly to allow time for travel and logistical arrangements. With a retention deadline of October 31, teams are working to finalize their player lists before shifting focus to the upcoming auction.
