On Thursday, Meta’s WhatsApp unveiled a new’secret code’ feature, allowing users to create a ‘unique password’ for opening their protected chats, adding an extra degree of protection. The ‘conversation lock’ option was first launched by the instant messaging platform in May of this year.
In a blog post, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg stated, “Rolling out secret code to Chat Lock on WhatsApp so you can protect your chats with a unique password.” You may now make your locked chats display only when you input the secret code into the search field, ensuring that no one unintentionally discovers your most private talks.”
WhatsApp’s official X (formerly Twitter account) said, “What locked chats? nothing to see here…soon you can hide your locked chats folder. then reveal it by typing your secret code into the search bar.”

WhatsApp has considerably improved security with its recent version by providing a new secret code option for all users. This feature lets users to create a one-of-a-kind password out of phrases or emojis to safeguard their chats with a unique passcode.
WhatsApp began rolling out this functionality on Thursday, but it will be available to all users in the following days.
How is this going to work?
With the inclusion of a secret code, WhatsApp users may now create a different password from their phone unlock code, providing an additional degree of anonymity for their closed messages. The users will now have the flexibility to conceal the locked chats folder from their chatlist, ensuring access only by entering the secret code in the search bar.
Users can also choose to have these restricted talks accessible in their chatlist. A long-press action simplifies locking a new chat, removing the need to browse to the chat settings.
Enabling the option to conceal the closed chats folder guarantees that these discussions remain private and are no longer visible in the main chat window. In comparison to the existing WhatsApp design, which exposes a locked conversation shortcut when scrolling down on the chat screen, this functionality provides users with increased privacy.
How to Use This Feature
-Open WhatsApp on your device.
-Go to the section displaying locked chats.
-Select the three dots option and activate the “Hide locked chats” feature.
-Proceed to establish a unique secret code to gain access to the concealed locked chats.
-Concealed locked chats will remain absent from the primary chat window.
-Enter the secret code within the search bar to temporarily unveil the hidden locked chats.
