WhatsApp to Introduce Enhanced Video Playback Controls and Privacy-Focused Profile Features

WhatsApp is gearing up to roll out new and improved features that promise to enhance user experience and privacy within the popular messaging app. From video playback controls to a privacy-focused “Alternate Profile,” these updates aim to meet user demands and offer a more versatile platform for both individuals and businesses.

Video Playback Controls Similar to YouTube

One of the forthcoming features on WhatsApp is enhanced video playback controls, designed to give users more control over their viewing experience. These controls will enable users to skip forward or backward in videos by 10 seconds, similar to the functionality offered by YouTube. This will make it easier to navigate and review important parts of a video without the need to manually scrub through the progress bar. While this feature is currently available to beta testers of WhatsApp for Android 2.23.24, it is expected to be released to a broader audience in future app updates, although an official release date has not been confirmed.

Privacy-Focused “Alternate Profile”

In addition to video playback controls, WhatsApp is also working on a privacy-focused feature known as “Alternate Profile.” This feature is designed to offer users more control over their profile information, allowing them to set different profile photos and names for specific contacts who are not part of their contact list. With this feature, users can restrict the visibility of their primary profile information from everyone else. The Alternate Profile feature will be incorporated into WhatsApp’s profile photo privacy settings, but it is still under development and has not yet been released to beta testers. Once available, users will be able to:

  1. Launch the WhatsApp app.
  2. Go to Settings > Privacy > Profile Photo.
  3. Select “My Contacts” to limit the visibility of your main profile photo to your contacts only.
  4. Create an alternate profile with a different photo and name.
  5. Adjust the settings to ensure that the alternate profile is visible only to specific users.

This new feature is expected to be particularly useful for individuals who want greater control over their profile information and who prefer to avoid sharing their profiles with a wider audience.

In recent updates, WhatsApp, owned by Meta, has demonstrated a strong focus on delivering features that cater to user preferences. These updates include features like blocking screenshots in view once mode and expanding the maximum number of participants in group calls to 31. With these new video controls and privacy enhancements, WhatsApp continues to evolve and adapt to user needs and expectations. Stay tuned for these exciting updates that will enhance your WhatsApp experience.
