WhatsApp video calls will include Augmented Reality (AR) features and creative filters for iPhone users. Call filters and effects make the experience more interesting and participatory than viewing a dull screen with a face on the other end. AR has the potential to further enhance the calling experience, and WeBetaInfo has uncovered fresh information indicating that these features may soon be included to the messaging app.
The new capability is being tested with iOS beta version 24.15.10.70, as reported by WaBetaInfo this week. We saw the tool tested on Android earlier this year, and the iPhone testing hint that a complete rollout is not far off.
“Users will be able to personalise their calls by enabling dynamic facial filters, such as a touch-up tool for smoothing skin appearance, and a low-light mode to improve visibility in dim environments,” the post shares the details about the upcoming tool. AR has been tipped to enhance the calling experience and it is hardly surprising to see WhatsApp plan to have the technology integrated for its own features.
The messaging app will have two modes called touch-up and low-light, where the former can smoothen your skin and add facial filters like it works on Instagram, the latter will help clear your face when the light isn’t the brightest.
We had also spotted that WhatsApp is also testing the option to change the background during calls that other platforms like Zoom, Microsoft Teams and Google Meet provide for their calls. The tipster has been able to spot the testing interface which has filters, background and effects at the bottom of the calling interface.
That’s not all, WhatsApp is planning for big design changes, which includes the ability to choose a new colour for the chat bubble or change the chat interface itself. The messaging app will also give you the option to ditch the phone number and have usernames as a part of their identity on the platform.
