Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of R.G. Kar Medical College, was detained in connection with a financial corruption investigation at the college, along with three other individuals.
Sandip, Suman Hazra, Biplab Singh, and Afsar Ali were placed under judicial detention by the Alipore Court on Tuesday.
Sandip and the others have been detained in Presidency Jail since Wednesday and will stay there till September 23.
How are Sandip’s days in jail? Various reports are emerging from jail sources.
According to sources, after Sandip Ghosh was placed in his cell, surveillance was increased significantly. Several CCTV cameras have been installed, and two guards have been stationed outside his cell. It’s also been reported that Sandip’s health is being regularly checked in the morning and evening.
Doctors have confirmed that Sandip, the former principal of R.G. Kar Medical College, is in good health. He has been eating the provided meals as per jail regulations. However, Sandip expressed dissatisfaction with the food, reportedly saying, “Is this even edible?” Jail authorities, however, did not take his complaint seriously. Sources indicate that he was told, “This isn’t R.G. Kar Hospital, where you’ll get what you ask for.”
Currently, Sandip is in cell number 10 of the Presidency Jail, with security personnel constantly on watch. Initially, he was placed in cell 26 of ward 22 to 44, but he was later transferred to cell 10 of “Pahela 22” ward.
Meanwhile, the other three arrested individuals have been housed in ward 23/44 of Presidency Jail. Former Deputy Superintendent of R.G. Kar Hospital, Akhtar Ali, has accused Sandip Ghosh of bio-waste corruption, embezzling government funds, and illegally hiring contractors for construction, among other financial scandals.
