Shreyas Iyer stole the limelight at the Cricket World Cup 2023, shattering records with a colossal 106-meter six. The Wankhede Stadium witnessed an electrifying performance as Iyer took on Sri Lanka’s Kasun Rajitha and sent the ball soaring over the long-on boundary.

Team India found itself in a precarious situation, with wickets tumbling from one end. Despite the challenges, Iyer stood firm, ensuring that the scoreboard kept ticking. With KL Rahul, Suryakumar Yadav, and others making their way back to the pavilion, a solid partnership between Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli laid the foundation for a formidable total. However, it was Iyer’s explosive shots that truly dazzled the audience.

As he took his stance in Mumbai, Iyer’s brilliant touch was evident. His 106-meter maximum overshadowed every other hit in the tournament, including Glenn Maxwell’s efforts. The ball landed right in the vicinity of Yuzvendra Chahal, who was seated alongside Ritika Sajdeh and Prithi Ashwin, leaving everyone in awe.

Kasun Rajitha bore the brunt of Shreyas’s impeccable timing and extraordinary power. On the fourth delivery of the over, Iyer unleashed a mighty swing, sending the ball into the Mumbai sky, where it journeyed an astonishing 106 meters, setting a new record for the longest six of the competition. The crowd at Wankhede erupted in cheers, acknowledging Iyer’s spectacular feat.

Shreyas’s colossal six was undoubtedly the highlight of the match, but other records were also shattered on this memorable day. India’s cricketing icon, Virat Kohli, achieved a significant milestone, surpassing the legendary Sachin Tendulkar’s record for the most runs in a single year in the ODI format. However, despite this accomplishment, Kohli narrowly missed equalling Sachin’s record for the most ODI centuries, having secured his one-thousandth run against Sri Lanka in the ongoing World Cup.

Virat Kohli’s illustrious career saw him breach the four-digit mark for the eighth time, with previous instances occurring in 2011-14, 2017-19, and now in 2023. Sachin Tendulkar had achieved this feat seven times in 1994, 1996-98, 2000, 2003, and 2007. This record-breaking day at the Wankhede Stadium left fans in awe of the cricketing excellence displayed by Shreyas Iyer and Virat Kohli.
