Virat Kohli’s Masterful 95 Powers India to Victory Over New Zealand, Setting Records Anew

In a spectacular performance, Virat Kohli led India to a thrilling four-wicket victory over New Zealand, marking their fifth consecutive win in the ongoing World Cup. While Kohli fell just five runs short of Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 49 one-day international centuries, India’s fast bowler, Mohammed Shami, was the star with figures of 5/54, helping dismiss New Zealand for 273 runs. India successfully chased down the target in Dharamsala with 12 balls to spare, and Kohli played a pivotal role in the triumph.

Kohli’s incredible innings included forging significant partnerships, notably a crucial 78-run stand with Ravindra Jadeja, who sealed the win with an unbeaten 39, clinching the victory with a boundary.

During this match, Kohli achieved a remarkable milestone, becoming the first Indian player to amass 3,000 runs across all ICC white-ball tournaments, including the 50-over World Cup, T20 World Cup, and Champions Trophy.

In One-Day Internationals (ODIs), Kohli surpassed the legendary Sanath Jayasuriya’s run tally to become the fourth-highest run-scorer. His ODI career boasts 13,437 runs in 286 matches at a strike rate of 93.69, including 48 centuries and 69 half-centuries, with a high score of 183.

Kohli also cemented his place as one of the leading run-scorers in ICC tournaments, accumulating 1,384 runs in 31 World Cup matches with a remarkable average of 55.36. He ranks as the fourth-highest run-scorer in the history of the tournament. In the ICC Champions Trophy, he has gathered 529 runs in 13 matches at an impressive average of 88.16, including five half-centuries. Kohli’s performance in the T20 World Cup is equally outstanding, with 1,141 runs in 27 matches at a remarkable average of 81.50.

Additionally, Virat equaled the records of Kumar Sangakkara and Shakib Al Hasan with 12 scores of 50+ in World Cup history, surpassing Ricky Ponting and Rohit Sharma, both of whom have 11 such scores. Sachin Tendulkar holds the top spot with an incredible 21 fifty-plus scores in World Cup matches.
