Virat Kohli Fans Protest Against Dainik Jagran for Controversial Article

Fans of Indian cricket star Virat Kohli took to social media to express their discontent with Hindi newspaper Dainik Jagran, which allegedly published an article critical of the player. Some fans even resorted to burning copies of the newspaper in protest, although it is unclear if this was a direct response to the article’s content.

The controversy emerged after Dainik Jagran questioned Virat Kohli’s approach during the ongoing 2023 World Cup, suggesting that he prioritized personal milestones, particularly his quest for centuries. While Kohli’s form in the tournament has been impressive, he faced criticism for taking 12 balls to reach his century in a match against Bangladesh and losing his wicket while attempting to reach a hundred against New Zealand. However, India won both matches convincingly and is on the verge of securing a spot in the semi-finals.

In response to these criticisms, Dainik Jagran published an article labeling Kohli as “selfish” and highlighting Indian captain Rohit Sharma’s aggressive approach at the top of the order in a more positive light.

One passionate Kohli fan, Ansh, explained on social media that he and his friends burned copies of the Hindi publication as a protest against the perceived “hate” directed at the star batsman.

Despite Kohli’s rare duck in a World Cup fixture during the recent match against England in Lucknow, where he was dismissed for zero runs after facing nine deliveries, India secured a resounding 100-run victory. Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah played key roles in their team’s success, taking four and three wickets, respectively, to put India back on top of the World Cup table.
