In a bid to enhance tourism and simplify travel procedures, Vietnam has launched a new electronic visa (e-visa) system for all nationalities, effective from August 15, 2023. This significant move is expected to revitalize the country’s tourism and related industries, which have faced challenges due to bureaucratic hurdles and the pandemic’s impact.
Expanded E-Visa Access
Vietnam’s decision to introduce the e-visa system for citizens of all countries and territories is rooted in Resolution No. 127/NQ-CP issued on August 14, 2023. This expansion marks a substantial departure from the previous list of 80 exempted nations, signaling the country’s intent to position itself as a more accessible and enticing global travel destination.
Extended ‘Visa-Free’ Privileges
A notable feature of the new e-visa system is the standardized 90-day permissible stay, encouraging longer and more immersive trips for both business and leisure purposes. Previously, travelers from select Western European nations, Japan, and South Korea were granted a 15-day visa-free entry. With the e-visa implementation, this duration has been extended threefold to 45 days. This extended privilege aims to attract a higher number of visitors from these countries, ultimately boosting tourism revenue and fostering cultural exchange.
Streamlined Travel Experience
The impact of this visa policy reform extends beyond major cities like Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. With 13 airports covering Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, along with 16 land border gates facilitating e-visas, the journey to Vietnam promises efficiency and ease. This infrastructure enhancement is poised to create a conducive environment for business activities.

Vietnam’s strategic intent behind this change is to bolster tourism and attract international investments.
