US President Biden Arrives in Delhi for G20 Summit, Talks with PM Modi

US President Joe Biden has arrived in Delhi for the September 9–10 G20 Summit. On the eve of the G20 Summit, Joe Biden will meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the latter’s residence in Delhi for a meeting. The two presidents are anticipated to discuss continued bilateral cooperation in the fields of high-tech, commerce, defence, and clean energy. They might also think about implementing a more liberal visa regime.

On Friday evening, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Joe Biden are scheduled to meet separately with a focus on strengthening the two countries’ wide global partnership.

The two heads of state are anticipated to discuss ongoing bilateral cooperation in clean energy, commerce, high technology, defence, and how the two nations might help address some of the most significant global issues.

After the G20 conference, on Sunday afternoon, Biden will depart for Vietnam. Biden is scheduled to arrive in New Delhi on Friday night.

According to a source, the discussion between PM Modi and President Biden would likely centre on assessing the current bilateral collaboration in a number of important fields, such as clean energy, defense, and high technology.

In their conversations in June in Washington, Prime Minister Modi and President Biden discussed the possibility of working together to develop next-generation small modular reactor technology. It is anticipated that the topic would come up again at their meeting on Friday.

Prior to Biden’s arrival, Karine Jean-Pierre, the press secretary for the White House, stated that the US praised Modi for his G20 leadership.

“We commend Prime Minister Modi for his leadership of the G20 this year, and we are committed to helping ensure that India has a successful G20 host as they host (the summit) this year,” she said.

That will therefore continue to be our commitment. “The President (Biden) and the prime minister shared their determination to deliver on shared priorities at the summit during Prime Minister Modi’s visit here in June,” she said in answer to a question.

The President, according to Jean-Pierre, is “very much looking forward to continuing that work with the Prime Minister and other leaders later this week as we head out as we depart tomorrow.”
