On Saturday, August 24, the prominent Indian batsman Shikhar Dhawan announced his retirement from both local and international cricket on X, previously Twitter. Since making his debut against Australia on October 20, 2010, during an ODI match at Visakhapatnam, the 38-year-old left-handed hitter has participated in 34 Tests, 167 ODIs, and 68 T20Is for the Indian squad.

Dhawan concluded his career with 2315 runs in Tests, 6793 in ODIs, and 1759 in T20Is. He last appeared for India on December 10, 2022, against Bangladesh at Chattogram. In the middle of the 2010s, he participated in two ODI World Cups and was an important part of the Indian squad in all three forms of the game.

Here’s a look at five records by Shikhar Dhawan that are yet to be broken

Highest score by Indian on Test debut: Dhawan made his Test debut for India against Australia at PCA Stadium in Mohali on March 14, 2013 and scored 187 runs in the first inning. He faced a total of 174 balls during his stay at the crease and smashed 33 fours and two sixes. His total of 187 runs is still the record for most runs on a Test debut by an Indian batter.

Most runs for India in Champions Trophy: Dhawan made his Champions Trophy debut for India in 2013 and finished as the leading run scorer in the tournament. He was part of the Indian team during the 2017 edition as well. With a total of 701 runs to his name in 10 matches, Dhawan holds the record for most runs by an Indian batter in the history of the ICC Champions Trophy.

Most 4s in IPL: Dhawan, who is the second-leading run scorer in IPL history, holds the record for hitting most fours in the cash-rich league. In 222 matches played so far, the left-handed batter has smashed 768 boundaries. Virat Kohli is second on the list with 705 fours in 252 matches.

Most runs for India in one edition of U-19 World Cup: Dhawan was in red-hot form for India in the 2004 edition of the U-19 World Cup, and in seven matches for the Ambati Rayudu-led side, he amassed a total of 505 runs, which is the record for most runs by an Indian batter in one edition of the tournament.
