At a ceremony to be held at Jammu’s Devak Bridge today, Tuesday, September 12, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will dedicate 90 infrastructure projects to the nation that Border Road Organisation (BRO) built at a cost of ₹2,941 crore.
According to the official announcement, the projects were built in ten bordering States and UTs in the Northern and North-Eastern regions.
In a ceremony hosted by the Border highways Organisation at Devak Bridge on the Bishnah-Kaulpur-Phulpur Road in Jammu and Kashmir, Rajnah Singh will open 22 highways, 63 bridges, the Nechiphu Tunnel in Arunachal Pradesh, two airfields in West Bengal, and two helipads.
According to ANI, the BRO used cutting-edge technology to accomplish the building of these important strategic projects in a record amount of time. Many of these projects were built over a single working season.
Among these projects, 11 have been completed in Jammu and Kashmir, 26 in Ladakh, 36 in Arunachal Pradesh, 5 in Mizoram, 3 in Himachal Pradesh, 2 in Sikkim, Uttarakhand, and West Bengal, and 1 in each of Nagaland, Rajasthan, and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
At a cost of ₹2229 crore, 102 BRO infrastructure projects were dedicated to the nation in 2021.
According to ANI, the Defence Minister will also take part in the North Tech Symposium, which is being organised by Northern Command and IIT Jammu.
According to a senior BRO official, the 500-meter Nechiphu Tunnel on the Balipara-Charduar-Tawang Road in Arunachal Pradesh will be officially opened as another significant infrastructure project.
Both the armed troops stationed there and visitors to the picturesque Tawang region would benefit from this tunnel, which, coupled with the Sela Tunnel currently under construction, will give all-weather connectivity to the region.
Tuesday will also see the opening of West Bengal’s renovated Bagdogra and Barrackpore Airfields. According to ANI, BRO successfully rebuilt these airfields for a cost of 529 crore.
These airfields will facilitate commercial flight operations in the area while also enhancing the defensive and offensive architecture of the Indian Airforce around the northern borders.
Additionally, the union minister will conduct an electronic shilanyash at Nyoma Airfield in Ladakh. Nyoma Airfield in Eastern Ladakh would be built for extensive strategic air assets at a cost of 218 crore rupees.
“The construction of this airfield will tremendously boost the air infrastructure in Ladakh and augment the IAF capability along our Northern Borders,” the official said.
