Shri Amit Shah, the Union Minister of Cooperation and Home Affairs, officially opened the IFFCO Nano DAP (Liquid) Plant at Kalol in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, yesterday. Numerous dignitaries were present on this occasion, including Shri Mansukh Mandaviya, the Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare and Chemicals and Fertilisers.
Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Shri Amit Shah congratulated the IFFCO team for introducing India’s first-ever Nano DAP (Liquid) plant in Kalol, Gandhinagar district. He highlighted India’s agricultural land and climate, which are unique to the country, and the need to reduce urea use and move towards natural farming. He also highlighted the importance of cooperative institutions in bridging the gap between food grain requirements and production.
Shri Amit Shah emphasized that IFFCO’s Nano Urea and Nano DAP will be included in the list of biggest experiments in the agricultural sector after ten years. He emphasized the need to reduce urea use and increase production while reducing the use of urea. He suggested that if Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS) collaborate with IFFCO, the land could move towards natural farming.
The Minister of Cooperation also highlighted the modernization of IFFCO’s pan-India plants, with the Kalol unit producing about 42 lakh bottles of green technology-based Nano DAP. He noted that 60% of the population relies on agriculture for earning a living and 60% of the country’s land is suitable for agriculture.
Shri Amit Shah also highlighted the increase in the government’s budget for farmers under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government, from Rs. 22,000 crores in 2014 to Rs. 1,22,000 crores by 2023-24. This increase has led to increased production, reduced minimum support prices for paddy, wheat, and millet, and reduced burdens on farmers during the Covid pandemic.
Shri Amit Shah urged IFFCO officials to compile a book on the journey of Nano Urea and DAP, stating that nanotechnology will bring significant changes in plant nutrition and lead to savings of 8-20%. He also mentioned the formation of two co-operative institutions for seed conservation and export of agricultural produce under Modi’s leadership.
