M Jagadesh Kumar, Chairman of UGC, declared that the Commission is striving to produce textbooks in 12 Indian languages. He said that the UGC is identifying nodal universities across the states to coordinate the process of developing teams of writers capable of writing high-quality textbooks in Indian languages. The project, he continued, is in line with NEP 2020’s aim of giving university students with opportunity to learn regional languages.
Earlier in July 2023, the CBSE published a statement urging its affiliated schools to use the NCERT textbooks, which are currently accessible in 22 scheduled Indian languages. The Board also emphasized the cognitive benefits of various languages at the foundational period, particularly the mother tongue, in accordance with NEP 2020.
