The UGC has asked Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) to share information on the empanelment of enterprises under the country’s General Guidelines for Grant for Internship Support in the Technical Textiles sector. To promote technical textiles, the Ministry of Textiles launched the National Technical Textiles Mission (NTTM).
During the first round, NTTM had sought submissions from Textile Research Associations (TRAs) and enterprises spanning several technical textile application areas. In response, the Ministry of Textiles has completed the list of Empanelled Companies/TRAs to provide internships to BTech students in their second, third, and fourth year in a variety of fields and specialisations as specified by the rules. The empanelled companies are entitled to receive fund support of up to Rs 20,000 per intern per month subject to a maximum period of 2 months and 50 interns per academic year from the Ministry of Textiles.
The GIST 2.0 guidelines target students pursuing BTech/undergraduates (2nd, 3rd, and 4th year) covering all application areas of technical textiles across various engineering departments textiles technology/textiles engineering/ textile science/textile chemistry; Civil Engineering; Agriculture/Agricultural Engineering/Technology; Medicine/Biomedical Engineering; Biotechnology; Design; Fashion Technology/Fashion Design; and Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Computer Science/IT Engineering , Production Engineering, Automobile Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering and other similar fields.
The eligibility for students under phase-II internship initiation programme is as follows.
a. Public institutes: Students hired by empanelled company/TRA for internship should be studying in a public university/institute that may be recognised by the UGC, AICTE or be notified as a Deemed University by respective government. Students from premier institutes such as IITs, NITs, AIIMs, IISERs, NIPERs, NIFT, SPA, NIDs, IISCs, and other premier public institutes in In India shall also be eligible for internships.
b. Private institutes: Students hired by empanelled company/TRA for internship should be from (i) Indian private university/institute which is in the top 200 of the latest National Institute Ranking Framework (NIRF) Ranking across different disciplines published by the Ministry of Education, Government of lndia; or (ii) Indian private university/institute which has been accredited by National Board of Accreditation (NBA) with a score of 750 or above on a scale of 1000; or (iii) Indian private university/institute which has been accredited by NAAC with a minimum score of 3.01 or grade A and above.
