Tragic Discovery: Ex-Sikkim Minister Found Dead in Canal, Details Inside

The body of former Sikkim minister RC Poudyal, missing for nine days, has been found in the Teesta Canal near Siliguri, West Bengal, on Tuesday, police confirmed.

The 80-year-old was identified from his watch and dress in the canal at Fulbari and it seems that the body has been drifting by the speed of the Teesta river. An SIT was constituted to track the veteran politician following his disappearance on July 7 from Chota Singtam in Pakyong district.
Poudyal was a deputy speaker in the first assembly of Sikkim and, later, the forest minister. He remained one of the most influential politicians in the State’s politics during the late ’70s and ’80s. He had an instrumental role in founding the Rising Sun Party and was acknowledged for his in-depth knowledge about the cultural and social tapestry of Sikkim.

“I am deeply grieved to hear about the sudden demise of Late Shri RC Poudyal Jyu, the statesman, and senior political leader who served Sikkim in various capacities as a minister and led the Jhulke Gham Party,” said Chief Minister PS Tamang.

The investigations into the death of Poudyal are still on.
