Torrential Rainfall Triggers School Closures in Punjab, Delhi-NCR, Haryana, UP, Uttarakhand, and Himachal Pradesh

The meteorological department reports continuous rainfall in various regions of Punjab and Haryana throughout the day. According to their forecast, there will be light to isolated heavy rainfall in certain areas of Uttarakhand, East Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi-NCR, and Himachal Pradesh. However, the department expects a reduction in rainfall in some locations starting from July 10.

Punjab

Harjot Singh Bains, the Punjab education minister, declared that all government, aided, and private schools will be closed until July 13th, 2023. Flooding has been reported as a result of severe rains, tributary embankments failing, and swollen rivers overflowing.

Delhi-NCR

Due to severe rainfall and an IMD Orange Alert, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has asked all school heads to close on July 10. “In light of the torrential rains that have been falling since Friday and the Orange Alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), all government and private schools have been ordered to remain closed for students on July 10 (Monday).” “Students must be informed about the holiday well in advance so that they do not venture out,” said a circular from the Directorate of Education (DoE).

Haryana

As further intense rainstorms were predicted for the region, Haryana’s Ambala administration declared holidays on Monday and Tuesday for all public and private schools in the district. In Ambala, three rivers—Markanda, Ghaggar, and Tangri—were said to be flowing dangerously close to the danger line. According to the District Education Officer, all schools in Panchkula will be closed on the 11th and 12th of July due to the area’s constant rains.

Uttar Pradesh

Due to rainfall and the Kanwar Yatra, every educational institution in Ghaziabad will be closed until July 15. Meanwhile, all government and private educational institutions in UP’s Muzaffarnagar would be closed from July 8 to 16, said district administration officials.

Himachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh

Due to severe rain, the state administration of Himachal Pradesh has declared the closure of schools and colleges in the region. Due to the Kanwar Mela, all schools in Uttarakhand’s Haridwar district will be closed from July 10 to 17. Due to adverse weather, all private and government educational institutes in Dehradun district, including Anganwadi Kendras, would be closed on July 11, 2023. The district administration made these decisions to safeguard Mela’s safety and smooth operation.
