Security forces, aided by para commandos, drones, and helicopters, have intensified the search operation in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district to eliminate terrorists who infiltrated from across the border and are hiding in the forest area.
Official sources said on Tuesday that there were two small rounds of firing within a span of four hours in the Desa forest area. The first one occurred at Kalaan Bhata at 10:45 pm while the second was near Panchan Bhata at 2 am. No casualty was reported in the exchange. The terrorists took advantage of darkness and challenging terrain and escaped.
Acting on the information about the presence of terrorists, a joint cordon and search operation was conducted by the Rashtriya Rifles and the SOG of the Jammu and Kashmir Police at Dhari Gote Urarbagi in the Desa forest belt, about 55 km from Doda town. The military action came after an attack earlier that killed four Army personnel on the night between Monday and Tuesday.
Despite treacherous terrain and inclement weather, the militants, suspected to have links with the banned Pakistan-based terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad, are continuously being hounded. The tracking and neutralizing operations are on with the help of aerial surveillance and commandos.
On Tuesday, the Army said in a statement that it was firm on its promise to rid Jammu and Kashmir of terrorism. The Army said that coordinated operations were underway with the Police to eliminate the foreign terrorists who have infiltrated from across the border and are hiding in the upper reaches of Udhampur, Doda, and Kishtwar districts. The Northern Command reiterates its resolve to continue relentless operations to root out terrorism from the region.
