The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rainfall warning for areas of Tamil Nadu, stating that the depression in the southwest Bay of Bengal has strengthened into a deep depression and is expected to develop into cyclonic storm ‘Fengal’ on Wednesday, November 27.
The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai has forecast severe to extremely heavy rainfall in districts including Mayiladuthurai, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram, Chengelpet, and Cuddalore. In response, officials have declared school vacations in Chennai, Chengelpet, Cuddalore, and Mayiladuthurai, according to PTI.
Schools and institutions in other locations, including as Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, and Tiruvarur, would be closed owing to the expected bad weather, which has been impacting these districts since Tuesday.
The meteorological service projected widespread light to moderate rainfall over the region, with occasional heavy showers lasting until Thursday, November 28.

The IMD has issued advisories for particular areas of Tamil Nadu. On Wednesday, a red warning was issued for unusually heavy rains in Cuddalore and Mayiladuthurai.
Chennai is on yellow alert for heavy rain from Wednesday to Friday. From Wednesday to Saturday, neighboring districts like as Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, and Chengalpet are under yellow and orange alerts.
