Shimla’s Superintendent of Police (SP), Sanjeev Kumar Gandhi, acknowledged the event and voiced concern over the turmoil. “The groups clashed when a protest broke out at the ashram following prayers and meditation. “We have filed a FIR under the appropriate sections, and investigations are underway, “Gandhi said. He emphasized that the situation was being taken seriously, with law and order being a top priority.
“While our team worked to restore peace and ensure property protection, tensions resurfaced after midnight, leading to further stone-throwing,” the SP added.
The clash reportedly began when a group of devotees staged a protest after allegedly being denied entry to the ashram. This protest quickly turned violent, involving supporters of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), both of which have been named in the FIR.
Allegations of mismanagement and attempts to seize control of the ashram’s operations have emerged, though the temple administration has denied the claims. They have pointed to a legal dispute under consideration by the Supreme Court as the source of the tensions.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident, and further details are awaited.
