Supreme Court YouTube Hacked

On Friday, September 20, there was a cyberattack on the Indian Supreme Court’s YouTube page. According to a Bar and Bench investigation, the channel was airing videos endorsing XRP, a cryptocurrency created by Ripple Labs, a US-based corporation.

The Supreme Court has been using YouTube to stream hearings of cases listed before Constitution Benches and matters involving public interest. Videos of earlier hearings have apparently been made private by the hackers, the report said.

What is the hacked channel showing?

A blank video with the title “Brad Garlinghouse: Ripple Responds To The SEC’s $2 Billion Fine! XRP PRICE PREDICTION” is live at present on the hacked channel, the report added.

Officials told the publication that they were looking into the hacking of the YouTube channel.

In a unanimous decision taken by the recent full court meeting headed by then CJI UU Lalit, the top court decided to live-stream proceedings of all constitution bench hearings following a path-breaking verdict on the matter in 2018.

In a statement, the apex court said that its YouTube channel had been taken down. The court added that services on the channel would resume shortly.
