Prajwal Revanna, the former JD(S) MP who is accused of rape and sexual assault, had his bail request denied by the Supreme Court on Monday.
The appeal was denied by a bench of Justices Dela M. Trivedi and Satish Chandra Sharma, who noted that Revanna had significant influence.
Senior counsel Mukul Rohatgi, who appeared on behalf of Revanna, stated that section 376 of the IPC was absent from the original complaint and that a charge sheet had been submitted in the matter.
The panel stated that it could not overrule the Karnataka High Court’s decision to refuse him bail on October 21.
After six months, Rohatgi requested permission to go before the court. However, the bench rejected his request, stating that it was unable to comment on that.
In August, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Karnataka which is probing four cases of sexual assault and harassment against Revanna submitted a 2,144-page charge sheet.
The charge sheet relates to a case in which the former MLA is accused of raping a woman, who worked as a domestic help for his family. There are two rape cases against the JD(S) leader and a sexual assault case.
Prajwal Revanna is the son of Holenarasipura JD(S) MLA H D Revanna and grandson of former prime minister H D Deve Gowda.
