On the occasion of 75th anniversary of the Supreme Court of India, the special screening of movie Laapata Ladies was organised on Friday in the Supreme Court. The screening aimed to raise awareness about gender equality. Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, Bollywood star Aamir Khan, Director Kiran Rao and other Supreme Court judges along with their spouses attended the film screening.
The screening was scheduled to run from 4:15 pm to 6:20 pm. This screening not only underscored the film”s important message but also reinforced the Supreme Court’s commitment to promoting disussions around gender equality.
Bollywood actor Aamir Khan witnessed the proceedings in the Chief Justice of India’s courtroom at the Supreme Court. He joined the top court when a three-judge bench, headed by CJI DY Chandrachud and comprising Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra was hearing a matter pertaining to the promotion of women in the armed forces. CJI Chandrachud welcomed the veteran actor, who was seen sitting in a special visitor gallery in courtroom 1 of the apex court.
While announcing the actor’s arrival, Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud put on his funny hat and said, “I don’t want a stampede in court. But Aamir Khan is here today.”
It was reported that Kalpana Das who is the wife of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, suggested him for the screening of the film for the entire staff of the apex court as she felt that the movie conveyed a moving message on gender sensitisation.
The circular from the SC stated,“As part of the activities organised during the 75th year of the establishment of the Supreme Court of India, the movie ‘Laapataa Ladies’, which is based on the theme of gender equality, will be screened on Friday, August 9. Kiran Rao, who has directed the movie, and Aamir Khan, the producer, will also be present during the screening.”
