Supreme Court Allows Delhi Government to Challenge Control of Services Act

On Friday, the Supreme Court gave the Delhi government permission to change its argument to challenge the Central Law on Control of Services rather than the Ordinance.
The administration of NCTD (Amendment) Act, 2023, which was approved by both Houses of Parliament, will now be challenged by the Delhi administration.

The Centre stated that it had no objections to the desired adjustment when the CJI D Y Chandrachud-led bench questioned SG Tushar Mehta whether the requested amendment could be approved.

The Union government has been directed by the Supreme Court to submit a response within four weeks.

The President has granted his assent to the ordinance enacted by both Houses of Parliament, which grants the federal government authority over Delhi’s bureaucracy.
