Exciting news for Taylor Swift fans! Stanford University is now offering a course dedicated to the renowned singer titled “The Last Great American Songwriter: Storytelling with Taylor Swift Through the Eras.” Designed by Stanford student Ava Jeffs as part of the university’s Student Initiated Course program, this course aims to explore Swift’s artistry and storytelling abilities.
According to Stanford spokesperson Luisa Rapport, the university offers a limited number of Student Initiated Courses each quarter, allowing students to delve into areas of personal interest or enrichment. This Taylor Swift-inspired course is the latest addition to Stanford’s curriculum, following a previous course titled “All Too Well (Ten Week Version)” centered around Swift’s song “All Too Well (Taylor’s Version).”
One notable aspect of the course is its grading system. Students will be assessed as either “satisfactory” or “non-satisfactory,” with no impact on their GPAs. This approach encourages a focus on learning and exploration rather than conventional grading metrics.
Ava Jeffs, the creator of the course, emphasized its goal of delving into the art of songwriting, examining the interplay between literary references, lyricism, and storytelling throughout Swift’s discography. By analyzing each album and drawing parallels to classic works of literature and poetry, students will gain a deeper understanding of the narrative power of music.
The course will be overseen by Professor Mark McGurl, who will ensure academic integrity and handle grading responsibilities. With its unique subject matter and focus on Swift’s evolution as a songwriter, this course is expected to generate considerable interest among students and Swift enthusiasts alike.
