New Zealand cricketers will have the freedom to choose between playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 and going to Pakistan next year. David White, the New Zealand Cricket (NZC) CEO, made the comments. The Black Caps are scheduled to tour Pakistan in two phases for Tests, ODIs and T20Is to be played in Karachi, Lahore, Multan and Rawalpindi. The schedule was announced a couple of days ago. Kane Williamson, the Kiwis skipper, also sounded excited ahead of the multi-format games.

The second leg of the tour is scheduled to take place from April 13 to May 7. During the same time, the upcoming IPL edition is also expected to get underway.
"As of our understanding, our full-strength side will go to Pakistan. I haven't talked to players and their association further in this regard," White was quoted as saying.

"But, players will be allowed to play in the IPL. They will be free to make a choice between the IPL and the Pakistan tour," he stated.
White also talked about the security in Pakistan and said that the New Zealand board is in touch with the government.
"Our delegation visited Pakistan earlier this year. We are in contact with the embassy and our government about this tour," White added.
Last year, the Kiwis pulled out of their tour of Pakistan before their ODI series after citing concerns regarding security.

New Zealand and Pakistan are currently taking part in a T20I tri-nation series, also involving Bangladesh, captained by Shakib Al Hasan.
Both teams have beaten each other once and are also expected to play in the final.
