At the Mangal Utsav, or wedding reception, of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant, AR Rahman, Shreya Ghoshal, Mohit Chauhan, and Jonita Gandhi performed together on stage. AR Rahman, an Oscar-winning music composer, and Shreya Ghoshal, a National Award-winning singer, reunited to sing several of their hit songs. They performed tracks from Mani Ratnam’s 2007 film Guru, which is loosely based on the life of Anant’s late grandfather, Dhirubhai Ambani.
Shreya Ghoshal sang “Barso Re,” a lively song from Guru, originally filmed on Aishwarya Rai. AR Rahman joined her on stage and performed “Tere Bina” from the same film, along with Jonita Gandhi. In the original track, Chinmayi Sripada provided the female vocals.
Shreya also sang “Saans,” another composition by Rahman from Yash Chopra’s 2012 romantic drama Jab Tak Hai Jaan, with Mohit Chauhan. The original song featured Shah Rukh Khan and Katrina Kaif. She also performed “Chaka Chak,” a recent Rahman composition from the 2021 film Atrangi Re, filmed on Sara Ali Khan. Shreya and Mohit also sang “Taare Ginn” from Mukesh Chhabra’s 2020 film Dil Bechara, originally filmed on the late Sushant Singh Rajput and Sanjana Sanghi.
As a tribute to senior singers who have sung for Rahman, Shreya performed “Kehna Hi Kya” from Mani Ratnam’s 1995 film Bombay, originally sung by Chitra, and “Chupke Se” from Mani’s 2002 film Saathiya, originally sung by Sadhana Sargam, while Rahman played the piano.
The wedding reception took place on Sunday at Mumbai’s Jio World Drive, wrapping up months-long celebrations. Anant Ambani, the youngest son of Mukesh Ambani, Asia’s richest man, married his longtime girlfriend Radhika Merchant on Friday.
The newlyweds were cheered by friends and relatives at the reception, which was attended by celebrities like Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, Bipasha Basu, Karan Singh Grover, Ravi Kishan, Jackie Shroff, Tiger Shroff, Ravindra Jadeja, and Arshdeep Singh. The event has been dubbed the wedding of the year.
