Smt. Jaya Varma Sinha takes charge as Chairperson and CEO, Railway Board

Today at Rail Bhavan, Smt. Jaya Varma Sinha assumed the role of new Chairperson and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Railway Board (Ministry of Railways). The appointment of Smt. Jaya Varma Sinha as Chairperson & CEO of the Railway Board was approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet. She is the first female to hold this top position inside Indian Railways.

Smt. Jaya Varma Sinha previously held the position of Member (Operations and Business Development), Railway Board. Smt. Sinha was in charge of managing all goods and passenger traffic on Indian Railways.

In 1988, Smt. Jaya Varma Sinha started working with the Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS). She has served in numerous critical positions for Indian Railways during the course of her 35-year career, including Member (Operations & Business Development) Railway Board and Additional Member, Traffic Transportation, Railway Board.

She has experience in a variety of industries, including operations, business, IT, and vigilance. She was also the first woman to be selected as South Eastern Railway’s Principal Chief Operations Manager. She had served as the High Commission of India’s railway advisor in Dhaka, Bangladesh, at the inauguration of the renowned Maitri Express from Kolkata to Dhaka. Smt. Sinha graduated from Allahabad University and has a passion for taking pictures.
