The SmackDown Premiere show broadcast on the ‘USA Network’ when Fox Network’s contract with WWE terminated. The inaugural episode of ‘Blue Brand’ was expected to include pyrotechnics, and it did not disappoint.
Last night’s broadcast of SmackDown included some jaw-dropping moments, fantastic bouts, and storylines being pushed forward. Certainly, it heralds a new era for the Blue Brand on the USA Network.
The start of the show
Firstly, the current Chief Content Officer of WWE, Paul Levesque.(aka Triple H) came out to address the audience on the Premiere episode and called the Steel Cage match for the undisputed WWE Championship between Cody Rhodes and Solo Sikoa. The match was a banger as it was expected to be, between the self-proclaimed “Tribal Chief” Solo Sikoa and the “American Nightmare” and current WWE Champion, Cody Rhodes. Cody defeated Solo to successfully defend his Undisputed title, but that was not the high point of the match. After the match the Bloodline as usual wanted to make amends for their leader’s loss and all of them entered the steel cage like a pack of hyenas hunting its prey. While they were at it, the “O.T.C.” Roman Reigns emerged to huge cheers and roars from the crowd, to save Cody from the beat down.
Some breathtaking matches took place following that, as Andrade became the number one contender for LA Knight’s US Championship and Nia Jax announcing the number one contender-deciding Tag team match for next week. But again, the biggest shock of the night was left for the main event, when Roman returned to sign a contract to fight a match with the Bloodline members. The “Head of the Table” stated that he did not need anyone’s help and specially not Cody’s, to battle the Bloodline. He also made it clear that he is not only the ‘Original Tribal Chief’, but he is also the only Tribal Chief . He claimed -“This is my ring. This is my show and this is my WWE” with the penchant aggression that Roman is known for.
Why this is a new era of SmackDown
Following that, the American Nightmare made his way to the ring. Cody reminded Roman that he was not the face of the WWE anymore, ever since he was defeated by Cody on Night two of WrestleMania XL. Just as things were about to get tense between the two, the Bloodline once again emerged to spoil the party. While Solo and Fatu stood their ground near the entrance, Tanga Loa and Tama Tonga attacked Cody and Roman from behind in the ring. As expected, it was to no avail, as the two superstars were too hot to handle for the Samoan brothers.
Finally, Roman signed the contract after the chaos and very reluctantly gave it to Cody to sign it, albeit with shame on his face. Now, that is what we call a blockbuster beginning of a new Era. Indeed, the ‘Paul Levesque era’ is flourishing with the SmackDown Premiere show, on the USA network.
