Shubman Gill’s Return Anticipated in India-Pakistan Match

Team India’s captain, Rohit Sharma, recently provided an update on opening batsman Shubman Gill’s status for the upcoming World Cup showdown against Pakistan. The match, set to take place at the illustrious Narendra Modi Stadium, has gained even more attention with Gill’s potential return.

Shubman Gill, who missed India’s initial matches against Australia and Afghanistan due to illness, was spotted attending the practice session a day prior to the much-awaited clash. Interestingly, while he was seen wearing a mask upon his arrival in Ahmedabad earlier this week, the mask was notably absent during his practice session.

The young opener’s ailment had kept him in Chennai, where he received medical attention. This health setback had also led the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to announce that Gill would not join the squad for India’s match against Afghanistan.

However, there’s renewed hope and anticipation, especially after Rohit Sharma’s statement, “99% Shubman Gill is available for selection tomorrow.”

Yuvraj Singh, the revered cricketer who clinched the Player of the Tournament Award in the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup, spoke exclusively to ANI about Gill. Recalling his own resilience when he played the World Cup amidst battling cancer, Singh expressed hope for Gill’s return. He commented on how challenging it can be to participate in matches while dealing with illnesses like fever and dengue, adding, “If he [Shubman Gill] is fit, he will definitely play.”

In the current year, Shubman Gill boasts an impressive record in the One Day Internationals (ODIs). Across 20 matches, he has racked up 1,230 runs, maintaining an average of 72.35 and a strike rate slightly over 105. This impressive tally includes five centuries and an equal number of half-centuries, with his highest score being 208.

To provide some context on Team India’s current form, they recently celebrated an 8-wicket triumph against Hashmatullah Shahidi-led Afghanistan. Set a challenging target after pacer Jasprit Bumrah’s commendable performance, top order batsmen Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan, and Virat Kohli steered the team to a decisive victory with ample overs to spare.

As the countdown to the electrifying India vs. Pakistan clash begins, all eyes remain on the playing XI and the potential inclusion of the talented Shubman Gill. (With ANI inputs).
