Shiv Nadar University and Arizona State University in the United States have formed an academic cooperation to offer new degree courses and a number of joint activities. The relationship began with two undergraduate dual degree programs in Computer Science and Business Data Analytics. Students in these four-year Bachelor of Science (BS) programs will attend Shiv Nadar University for the first two years and Arizona State University (ASU) for the remaining two. After four years of study, students will graduate with dual BS degrees from both colleges. After completing the course in the United States, students will get three years of optional practical training (OPT).
Professor Ananya Mukherjee, vice-chancellor, Shiv Nadar University said, “This is the beginning of a new strategic collaboration with one of the top 1% universities in the world. We aim to produce graduates with a perspective to imagine a new world for which international collaborations are essential. These courses will help in creating global leaders and innovators. ASU’s commitment to interdisciplinary and experiential education and its focus on sustainability are extremely valuable to this partnership.”
Susan Edgington, executive director and head of operations, Global Academic Initiatives, ASU said, “Our mission is to provide access to students in all spheres with a strong emphasis on innovation, sustainability and global impact. Last year, over 1,45,000 students enrolled themselves in ASU. Right now, we are onboarding our new class for the fall session of 2024, and we are expecting 41,000 new students at ASU this fall. Our total enrollment will grow to over 1,50,000 students, and of that student population, over 10% is international students coming from more than 150 countries across the world. We are a comprehensive university with more than over 800 degree programmes, which gives students a lot of options to pursue their passion. The faculty that chooses to come to ASU include five Nobel laureates, 11 MacArthur Fellows, 10 Pulitzer Prize winners, and 23 National Academy of Sciences members.”
ASU-Cintana Alliance, a global network of innovative universities has been supporting Shiv Nadar University to gain access to international exchange programmes, student competitions, summer immersion experiences, and the opportunity to learn in global classroom environments.
“Most universities, either in the US or in India, need the capacity to enable global academic partnerships. They do not have specialists to work on international relations or international partnerships. They may have an international office, but usually, the international offices have only one or two people to build partnerships. It is very challenging with one or two people, so it is really about capacity within the university to be able to make such partnerships work. We propose a professional model to put in place an effective partnership to ensure the desired outcome,” said Rick Shangraw, president, Cintana Education.
Another highlight of the programme is an optional ASU Summer Experience at Tempe, Arizona campus, focusing on developing leadership skills and learning about UNSDG.
