Congress MP Shashi Tharoor felicitated Team India cricketer Sanju Samson on his return to the state after the T20I series between India and Bangladesh on Monday (14 October). He shared a post on his official social media handle which read, “Delighted to give a hero’s welcome to “ton-up Sanju” as @IamSanjuSamson returned to Thiruvananthapuram after his stunning century versus Bangladesh. Found a “ponnada” in the appropriate India colours to honour him with! #SanjuSamson”.

Sanju Samson looked comfortable with the willow in the first two T20Is against Bangladesh, but he finished with poor scores. In the third and final T20I, the Kerala player hammered a magnificent century.
Sanju Samson scored 111 runs off 47 deliveries, including 11 fours and 8 sixes. During his innings, he hit leg-spinner Rishad Hossain for five consecutive sixes in an over on his way to a century in 40 balls. He added 173 runs for the second wicket with Suryakumar Yadav, who smashed 75 off 35 balls, but his performance was overshadowed by his partner’s blitz and the gigantic total. Samson eventually lost his wicket to Mustafizur Rahman and went back to pavilion with a standing ovation from the weekend crowd.
India took just 14 overs to achieve the second-fastest 200 by a team in T20I history. Only South Africa is ahead of India, which reached the target in 13.5 overs against the West Indies in Centurion last year.
Team India won the third T20I by 133 runs over Bangladesh. The “Men in Blue” recorded a series sweep against the “Bengal Tigers.”
