Former England football captain David Beckham’s inaugural visit to India as a UNICEF goodwill ambassador has been eventful, and Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan had the pleasure of catching up with the football icon during his stay.
Expressing admiration for Beckham’s kindness and gentlemanly demeanor, Shah Rukh Khan took to social media platform X to share their encounter. The 58-year-old actor praised Beckham, stating, “Last night with an icon…and an absolute gentleman. Have always been a big admirer, but meeting him and seeing how he is with kids made me realize that the only thing that outdoes his football is his kindness and his gentle nature. My love to your family. Be well and happy, my friend, and get some sleep…. #DavidBeckham,” read SRK’s caption accompanying the post.
Beckham, on a visit to India to witness the Cricket World Cup semi-final between India and New Zealand at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium, has been generous with his time, obliging fans and celebrities alike for photographs.
After a stellar 21-year professional football career, Beckham officially retired in 2013. His final match, playing for Paris Saint-Germain, saw him subbed off at the 80th-minute mark, receiving a standing ovation from fans and support from teammates.
In a recently released documentary on Netflix, Beckham shared his emotional experience during his last match, stating, “All of a sudden I couldn’t breathe, and I couldn’t control my emotions. When I finally come off, I completely lose it. But as much as it hurt me knowing I was never going to play football again, I knew I’d made the right decision.”
Despite retirement, Beckham remains connected to the world of football. He currently serves as the co-owner of the MLS side Inter Miami in the United States, showcasing his continued passion for the beautiful game.
