Severe Cyclonic Storm Hamoon Weakens Over Coastal Bangladesh: IMD

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Cyclonic Storm Hamoon was centered over the coastal region of Bangladesh on October 25. It is expected to travel northeastward and weaken into a deep depression during the next six hours, then into a depression again during the next six hours.

In a post on X, it said, “The Cyclonic Storm Hamoon over coastal Bangladesh lay centered at 0530 hours IST of 25th Oct about 40 km east-southeast of Chittagong (Bangladesh). To move northeastwards and weaken into a deep depression during next 06 hrs and further into a depression during subsequent 06 hrs.” Videos posted in X showed heavy rains with strong winds in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh as cyclone crossed Chattogram. 

As per IMD, light to moderate rainfall is very likely at most places along with isolated heavy rainfall over Mizoram and Tripura on 25th October. The weather department has also predicted light to moderate rainfall at many places over Mizoram and Tripura on 26th October.

Apart from this, the weather department has also predicted light to moderate rainfall at many places over Nagaland and Manipur from 24-26th October and east Arunachal Pradesh on 25th and 26th October.

Additionally, from October 24 to 25, the IMD is requesting that fishermen avoid going into the North Bay of Bengal and the beaches of Odisha, West Bengal, Bangladesh, and northern Myanmar. Additionally, it requested that fisherman stay away from West Central’s surrounding areas until October 24th evening and East Central’s Bay of Bengal until October 25th morning.

According to port officials as reported by PTI, a “storm warning cage number 2” was put up at Pamban Port in Rameswaram on Tuesday to alert fishermen about the Severe Cyclonic Storm “Hamoon” over the Bay of Bengal.
