Authorities reported seven persons perished in a cloudburst incident in Himachal Pradesh’s Solan district. Six people were rescued following the cloudburst in Solan’s Mamligh hamlet of Kandaghat subdivision, they added.
According to ANI, two houses and one cowshed were washed away.
In a tweet, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu expressed his sympathies and stated that he has asked the authorities to provide all available assistance and support to the afflicted families.
“I am devastated to learn of the tragic loss of seven precious lives in the cloudburst incident at Village Jadon, Dhawla Sub-Tehsil in Solan District.” My heartfelt sympathies go out to the bereaved families. “During this difficult time, we share your pain and sorrow,” the Chief Minister’s Office tweeted.
All educational institutes in the hill state will be closed today to ensure the safety of children in the midst of severe rains, the Chief Minister announced on Sunday, adding that he had called with all District Collectors in the state to get comments on the damage and devastation.
He was also informed about the road closures and the devastation caused by landslides. In light of the impending severe rains, the Chief Minister has directed the Chief Secretary, Home Secretary, and all DCs to keep a careful eye on the situation. According to the Chief Minister, administrative workers should stay watchful and ensure seamless arrangements for roads, electricity, and water.
The state Department of Education sent a statement advising all ongoing examinations of Post Graduate programs, including B.Ed exams due for August 14, that they had been cancelled.
The severe rains in Himachal Pradesh and bordering Uttarakhand are the result of a new episode of Western Disturbance, according to the Indian Meteorological Department.
“Because the Monsoon trough is located along the Himalayan foothills, the South-westerly Arabian Sea monsoonal winds are hitting the Himalayan foothills,” the meteorological service explained.
According to an IMD statement issued on Sunday, moderate to heavy rainfall is expected to persist over the state, with very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in isolated locations in the districts of Chamba, Kangra, Hamirpur, Mandi, and Bilaspur, Solan, Shimla, Kullu, and Sirmaur.
“270 shops were damaged during the monsoon, and 2,727 cow sheds were damaged,” officials stated.
According to government data, the state has seen 90 landslides and 55 flash floods thus far. While roughly 450 routes in the state remain closed, including two National Highways. According to officials, 1,814 electrical supply schemes are still impeded, while 59 water supply schemes are still disrupted.
