Schools Closed in Noida, Punjab; Delhi Alters Timings

Due to the cold weather conditions, all teaching activities from nursery to class eight in all Noida and Greater Noida schools will be postponed till January 16, according to an official directive issued on Saturday. The District Magistrate has ordered that the timetables for Classes 9-12 be changed.

According to authorities, classes 9 through 12 will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will continue until January 20.

“In compliance with the instructions given by Gautam Buddh Nagar District Magistrate Maneesh Kumar Verma in view of the dense fog and extremely cold weather, all schools will observe holiday till January 16 for classes nursery to eight,” Rahul Panwar, Basic Education Officer of the district, stated in an order.

These timings will continue till January 20, the order stated.

Similarly, the Punjab government has also extended the winter holidays for students up to Class 5 at all schools till January 21. The announcement was made by Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains on X.

For Classes 6 to 12, regular teaching will take place from 10 am to 3 pm.

The state government had earlier, on January 7, mandated that all government, government-aided, and private schools up to Class 10 be closed till January 14. However, the schools remained open for Classes 11 and 12.

On Sunday, heavy fog enveloped Northern India, causing conditions akin to a cold wave. Visibility was as low as nil in numerous locations, including Delhi.

The Delhi Education Department, however, has mandated that all classes—including nursery, KG, and primary classes—reopen in the traditional manner as of right now.

“In continuation of Order no. PS/DE/2024/14 dated 07/01/2024, it is directed that all students of Government, Government Aided and Recognised Private Schools shall join back classes in physical mode at their respective schools with effect from 15/01/2024(Monday). This includes Nursery, KG and Primary classes as well,” the order from Education Department stated.

However, the order also stated that no classes will be held before 9 am and after 5 pm.
