Three Independent MLAs joined Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday, in a big boost for the Haryana BJP. Devender Kadyan and Rajesh Joon will be with the BJP in the assembly, announced BJP Haryana chief Mohan Lal Badoli, earlier in the day.

Within a few hours, India’s richest woman Savitri Jindal, who had secured victory from Hisar – a seat that she had won in 2005 and 2009, joined the saffron party. Kadyan, a BJP rebel, won from Ganaur as an Independent while Joon defeated his BJP rival to secure victory in Bahadurgarh.

“…48 candidates of BJP have won in the Haryana elections and 3 independent candidates have also won. Devender Kadyan and Rajesh Joon are sitting here with me. They have decided to extend support to BJP under the leadership of PM Modi…BJP now has a total of 50 MLAs in Haryana. I welcome both the independent MLAs to the party,” said Haryana BJP President Mohan Lal Badoli, as quoted by news agency ANI.

Savitri Jindal had joined the BJP in March but contested as an Independent on not getting a ticket. She is the mother of BJP MP Naveen Jindal and wife of late industrialist OP Jindal.

Haryana Assembly Election Results

The BJP on Tuesday made a strong comeback in Haryana, after facing a significant setback during the recent Lok Sabha election, which saw the saffron party lose five of the 10 parliamentary seats across the northern state to Congress. Most of the exit polls had predicted a comfortable majority for the Congress this time with 49-55 seats.

The grand old party, however, managed to win only 37. However, the defeat faced by other anti-BJP parties was a lot worse than the fate met by Congress. JJP, a former BJP ally in Haryana, lost all the 66 seats it contested in alliance with the Azad Samaj Party. In fact, JJP leader and former Haryana CM Dushyant Chautala lost the Uchana Kalan seat, which he had won in 2019, to BJP’s Devender Chattar Bhuj Attri.
