Sabarmati Express Derailed, Railway Minister says “Sharp Hit Marks…”

Around 22 coaches of the Sabarmati Express passenger train, running from Varanasi to Ahmedabad (19168), derailed between Kanpur and Bhimsen stations in Uttar Pradesh early Saturday morning after its engine collided with an object on the tracks, according to officials. There are no early reports of injuries.

The Indian Railways has dispatched buses to assist passengers in reaching Kanpur, and preparations have been made for them to continue their journey to Ahmedabad.

“22 bogies of Sabarmati Express have derailed but no one is injured,” ADM city Kanpur Rakesh Verma told ANI.

 “The loco pilot said that some boulder hit the cattle guard (front portion) of the engine which had got badly damaged and bent,” a Railway Board official said, PTI reported.

According to the Indian Railways, seven trains have been cancelled and three diverted due to the derailment.

“The engine of Sabarmati Express (Varanasi to Amdavad) hit an object placed on the track and derailed near Kanpur at 02:35 am today. Sharp hit marks are observed. Evidence is protected. IB and UP police are also working on it. No injuries to passengers or staff. Train arranged for passengers for onward journey to Amdavad” Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw informed on X.

According to the railways train enquiry website, the train derailed at 2:29am on Saturday, approximately 30 minutes after departing from Kanpur Central station, near Bhimsen.
