Report Says, Employers Plan to Hire Freshers in HY2

In the upcoming months, 72% of businesses want to hire recent graduates, according to a survey published by learning and employability solutions provider TeamLease EdTeach. The survey, which was performed between April and June 2024 among around 603 organizations in India, served as the basis for the study named “Career Outlook Report HY2 (July – December 2024).”

The survey suggests that the intention to hire recent graduates is indicative of a favorable trend in the job market for recent graduates.

The 72% hiring intent is a 7% increase over the same period in 2023 and a 4% increase over the previous half-year, pointing to a steadily improving job market for new people.

“The increase in hiring intent for freshers is an encouraging sign. It reflects growing confidence among employers and presents valuable opportunities for fresh talent entering the workforce,” said Shantanu Rooj, Founder and CEO of TeamLease EdTech.

As per the report, the top three industries with the highest hiring intent for freshers are e-commerce and technology start-ups, engineering and infrastructure and retail with 61 per cent, 59 per cent and 54 per cent of employers in these sectors planning to recruit, respectively.

Among the cities, Bengaluru leads with 74 per cent of employers intending to hire freshers, followed by Mumbai at 60 per cent and Chennai at 54 per cent.

In terms of job roles, full stack developer, SEO executive, digital sales associate, and UI/UX designer have emerged as the most in-demand positions for freshers. Employers are particularly seeking candidates with skills in cybersecurity, cloud computing, data analytics, and search engine optimization.

The research also highlights how industry-academia partnership is becoming increasingly important. In order to better match academic training with industry needs, 62% of employers support industrial-academia cooperation, while 70% of companies recommend upgrading curricula with experiential learning.

Furthermore, the demand for degree apprenticeships is still stable. With 25% of companies expecting to hire degree apprentices, manufacturing is the industry leader. Engineering and infrastructure comes in second at 19%, followed by construction and real estate at 11%. Bangalore has the greatest intention of hiring apprentices out of all the cities, at 25%, followed by Chennai at 21% and Mumbai at 16%.
