Tamil film actor Rajinikanth’s wife, Latha Rajinikanth, has been granted conditional bail by a Bengaluru court in connection with a forgery case related to the 2014 film ‘Kochadaiiyaan.’ Appearing in person before the Magistrate court on December 26, Latha Rajinikanth also filed an application for discharge in the case, with the court adjourning the hearing to January 6.
The court approved bail on a personal bond of Rs.1 lakh and a cash surety of Rs.25,000, with explicit instructions not to influence witnesses or tamper with evidence. Latha Rajinikanth faces charges under Sections 196, 199, 463, 420, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code.
The discharge application submitted by her advocate faced objections from the complainant, citing the non-bailable nature of Section 463 of the IPC and the absence of prior bail. The high court, on December 1, directed Latha Rajinikanth to appear before the court in person by January 6, 2024.
The private complaint against Latha was lodged by Ad Bureau Advertising, a Chennai-based company with financial dealings with M/s Mediaone Global Entertainment Ltd, the production company behind the film featuring Rajinikanth. Notably, the director of ‘Kochadaiiyaan’ is Latha Rajinikanth’s daughter.
Allegedly, Latha Rajinikanth executed a guarantee on behalf of Mediaone Global Entertainment Ltd in favor of Ad Bureau Advertising but failed to honor it after the film incurred losses. In response, Latha obtained an injunction against 70 media houses, preventing the dissemination of purportedly incorrect information about the financial transaction. However, the court dismissed this injunction suit in 2015. Subsequently, Ad Bureau Advertising filed a private complaint, asserting the use of a false document in Latha Rajinikanth’s earlier injunction suit.
The legal proceedings unfold against the backdrop of the complex financial transactions surrounding ‘Kochadaiiyaan,’ raising questions about the financial obligations and responsibilities within the realm of film production.
The court’s decision to grant conditional bail and the upcoming hearing on the discharge application add further intrigue to this legal saga, as Latha Rajinikanth navigates the legal intricacies surrounding the alleged forgery case linked to the iconic 2014 film.
