Rajesh Khullar, a former top bureaucrat, was named chief principal secretary to Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Friday with the rank and status of Cabinet minister, effective immediately.
His term will be co-terminus with the term of the chief minister, an order issued by Chief Secretary T V S N Prasad, said.
Saini took oath as chief minister for the second time on Thursday, after the BJP regained control in Haryana following the October 5 Assembly election.
Over a year after his retirement, the Haryana government selected Khullar as chief principal secretary to then-Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar.
Khullar retained his position as chief principal secretary after Saini succeeded Khattar as chief minister in March.
Khullar, an IAS officer from the 1988 batch, served as the additional chief secretary and financial commissioner for the Revenue, Disaster Management, and Consolidation departments. He retired last year.
Khullar’s nomination as executive director of the World Bank’s Washington DC office for a three-year term in September 2020 was a career milestone for him.
Before the foreign assignment, he had been Khattar’s principal secretary for nearly five years.
Khullar also held the position of joint secretary in the Union Ministry of Finance’s Department of Economic Affairs.
