Rahul Gandhi’s return to the Lok Sabha restores his position on the Parliamentary Committee

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was nominated to the parliamentary standing committee on defense on Wednesday, only days after his Lok Sabha membership was restored. According to a Lok Sabha bulletin, Congress MP Amar Singh has also been nominated to the committee.

Sushil Kumar Rinku, a newly elected Lok Sabha member from the Aam Aadmi Party, has been appointed to the Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, and Food Processing Committee. Rinku just won a Lok Sabha byelection in Jalandhar and is the only AAP member in the Lower House of Parliament. Faizal P P Mohammed of the National Congress Party, whose Lok Sabha seat was restored in March, has been appointed to the committee on consumer affairs, food, and public distribution.

Gandhi was a parliamentary panel on Defense member before being disqualified in March. Gandhi’s Lok Sabha membership was reinstated on August 7, just days after the Supreme Court suspended his conviction in a 2019 defamation lawsuit over his “Modi surname” statements.

Gandhi was disqualified as a Lok Sabha member on March 24, with effect from March 23, after being convicted in the case and sentenced to two years in prison by a Gujarat court. A sentence of two years or more automatically disqualifies a legislator. In the Lok Sabha, he represents Wayanad.
