Rahul Gandhi, the Congress leader, will visit Wayanad on August 12-13, his first trip to his constituency after being reinstated as a member of Parliament, said party general secretary KC Venugopal on Tuesday.
The Lok Sabha secretariat reinstated Gandhi as an MP on Monday, just days after the Supreme Court stayed his conviction in a criminal defamation case.
“On August 12-13, Sh. @RahulGandhi ji will be in Wayanad, his constituency!” The people of Wayanad are overjoyed that democracy has triumphed and that their voice has returned to Parliament! Rahul ji is a member of their family, not simply an MP!” In a tweet, Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal stated.
Gandhi was disqualified as a Lok Sabha MP on March 24, a day after a metropolitan court in Surat, Gujarat, sentenced him to two years in prison in the case.
The Gujarat High Court denied his request for a stay of execution on July 7, therefore he petitioned the Supreme Court on July 15.
