The Delhi Police will examine the First Information Report (FIR) filed against Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, who is accused of hurting two Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MPs at the Parliament complex.
Rahul Gandhi has been charged under sections 117 (voluntary causing grievous hurt), 115 (voluntary causing hurt), 125 (act endangering the life or personal safety of others), 131 (use of criminal force), 351 (criminal intimidation), and 3(5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita) in connection with the clash between the Opposition and National Democratic Alliance (NDA) MPs on Thursday.
The event occurred during Tuesday’s rallies over Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s purported insult to B R Ambedkar in the House. Former Minister Pratap Chandra Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput were hurt after a scuffle between the two groups.
The Congress representative has been accused of hooliganism by many BJP officials, but the Congress has rejected the FIR as a “badge of honour” and accused the BJP of adopting diversionary tactics.
A delegation of Congress MPs, including Digvijaya Singh, Mukul Wasnik, Rajiv Shukla, and Pramod Tiwari, also lodged a police report. Congress MPs have requested Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to launch an investigation into the event. A senior officer stated that police have received the complaint and are investigating it.
