Pro-Palestine Activist Disrupts World Cup Final, Reaches Virat Kohli

In a startling incident during the World Cup final clash between India and Australia at the Narendra Modi Stadium, a pro-Palestine pitch invader breached security, causing a temporary halt to play.

The disruption unfolded just before the first drinks break in India’s innings when Wayne Johnson, an Australian of Chinese-Filipino origin, managed to make his way to the middle, approaching none other than Virat Kohli. Security personnel swiftly intervened, apprehending Johnson and escorting him off the field.

Wearing a face mask adorned with the Palestine flag design and a T-shirt boldly stating “Stop bombing Palestine” on the front and “Save Palestine” on the back, Johnson’s actions drew attention to the ongoing conflict between Israel and the Hamas militant group in Palestine. The International Cricket Council (ICC) strictly prohibits political protests during matches, raising questions about potential consequences for Johnson, a foreign national.

The disruptor was promptly identified, and authorities took him into custody, transporting him to the Chand Kheda Police station in Ahmedabad, as reported by PTI.

The incident has sparked debates about the balance between personal expression and adherence to cricketing regulations. With Johnson’s actions transcending borders, it remains to be seen how the ICC will respond to this breach.
